About Thomas
***This page is the original page and dedicated to the founder, Thomas, of this wealth of information***
My name is Thomas. I am (as of this writing 3/2016) a 66 year old semi-retired professional musician who lives in Austin Texas (the best place to live in Texas!!). I think that I have probably done more modifications to a Trailmanor than anyone else on the planet and I take great pride in the thought of that. If there is something you have done and I haven’t, please contact me because I am probably interested. All but maybe a couple of these projects that I have done are original ideas. I have, without a doubt, blazed more new modification trails than anyone else. If not, I would love to be proven wrong. All my ideas are for you, the Trailmanor owners of the world and I am more than happy to share them with you.
My wife, Linda, the love of my life , is the very best thing that ever happened to this ole boy. I grew up in Houston , the armpit of Texas to a middle class family. My father, bless his heart, was a family physician who worked his ass off all his life and never had a moments rest thanks to the medical bureau that called him all the time day or night. I guess it was this one factor that taught me how to cuss, because every time the phone rang, he would go off in a tirade!
So growing up in this scene gave me an economic advantage. For every summer the family would pile into that black 56 Buick Roadmaster tuna boat and off we would go. We went all over the west and even once to the east coast, but usually it was Colorado or California and all points in between. We even went to Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore. It was great fun and quite an adventure.
Linda, on the other hand, whose mom was from Kentucky, and whose father was blind, were not so lucky in the fact that they didn’t have as much money as my family and so every summer they always went to Kentucky. Now don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with Kentucky and it’s quite a lovely state too, but if that was all you got every summer you didn’t get to see the majesty of the west like I did. So…..I decided to take her traveling around and show her the country like I had gotten to see. We took a couple of trips to Colorado and Utah and even Yellowstone and came to the conclusion that the biggest two expenses were the lodging and meals. This limited our ability to travel every year. Something had to be done about that and a travel trailer was the answer.
I started doing research on Airstreams and found out that they were really expensive, even for an old used one. So those were out of the question. I looked around and by chance I stumbled on the pop ups, namely the Hi-Lo. So I started looking online for a good used one because I liked the fact that by lowering the trailer one could save a lot of money on gas because you weren’t pushing all that wind as one went down the road. Then while searching one day BOOM!!, there it was… the Trailmanor. WOW! Now that was different and really cool in how it opened up and all (hooray for Youtube). So I started looking at those and found out that you could get one with a king size bed, full bathroom & kitchen. That did it! This was the answer to my prayer. I had just inherited a sum of money from my passed brother’s wife and that started the ball rolling. I was able to get me a new 2013 Silverado and still have money left over to get a trailer. Then in my search I found a 2003 3124KS (just what I wanted!!!) in Bloomfield Iowa for $5500! WOW!!! What a steal! It had been totaled by an insurance company and a parts and salvage yard in Bloomfield (Spillmans) had bought it and had it for sale. So I contacted them and put $500 down until my ship came in and then a few months later paid it off when I went up there to pick it up and bring it home. It wasn’t in perfect shape and had some very slight hail damage to the roof, but everything else worked and was in good order….oh..accept for the bathroom wall had come off its track and had to be put back together. That was no problem at all and I fixed it even better than new and made sure it will never come apart again.
This was the beginning of my love affair with my 3124KS, and I want to share it all with you too, in the hopes that my journey will help everyone with a Trailmanor to have more fun and get the very most out of their RV no matter what size you have. So read on…and feel free to contact me and copy all of my ideas on your Trailmanor. Just don’t sell any of them without asking me first….OK?….
Thanks and Happy Trails(Manoring)
